Brother Home Sewing Machine - Choosing Sewing Needles

Before sewing, it is important to ensure that the needle is not bent. How can you tell if the needle is bent? You can check with below images:

You can use the underline cover shown below to check if the needle is straight. The cover has a slot where you can place the needle with the flat side facing the cover. In the photo below, the needle represents a normal, straight needle.

If the needle is bent, it will be noticeably curved upward, as shown in the photo below. If you encounter this situation, do not sew with the bent needle, as it may break during sewing. You must discard it.

After checking the needle, you need to select the appropriate needle and thread based on the fabric you are sewing. The Brother home sewing machine can use needles ranging from size 9 to 16. The smaller the needle number, the finer the needle. Conversely, the larger the needle number, the thicker the needle. Similarly, the smaller the thread number, the thicker the thread, and the larger the thread number, the finer the thread. You can refer to the table below to choose the appropriate needle and thread for different materials:

Using Ballpoint Needles:
Use ballpoint needles when sewing stretch fabrics or fabrics prone to skipped stitches. Recommended options are "HG-4BR" needles from the Organ brand or "130/705H SUK90/14" needles from the Schmetz brand.
Sewing with Transparent Nylon Thread:
When using transparent nylon thread, regardless of the fabric being sewn, use needles size 90/14 or 100/16.
Sewing Bookbinding Fabric:
When sewing bookbinding fabric, the needle may cause misalignment or difficulty in smoothly feeding the fabric. In such cases, you can place a piece of paper under the fabric and sew through both the fabric and the paper. After sewing is completed, tear off the paper.
Why do skipped stitches occur? You can refer to the table below for the answer! ~

It is also important to adjust the thread tension for optimal sewing results. Wishing you successful sewing!
